Python Setup and Usage on Windows

Youve just unboxed your shiny new machine, and you can hardly wait to get started with some coding! But before we dive into that, something equally exciting: installing Python on Windows.

Step 1: Download the Installer (or not)

First things first head over to python.org and download the latest version of Python for Windows. Wait, what? You dont want to do that? Well, why not? It’s easy! Just click “Download” and wait a few minutes while it finishes downloading. Or you could just skip this step altogether because you already have Python installed on your computer (you know, from when you took that introductory programming course in college).

Step 2: Run the Installer (or not)

Once the download is complete, run the installer. Wait, what? You don’t want to do that either? Well, why not? It’s easy! Just double-click on the file and wait a few minutes while it finishes installing. Or you could just skip this step altogether because you already have Python installed on your computer (you know, from when you took that introductory programming course in college).

Step 3: Open Your Favorite Text Editor (or not)

Now that Python is installed, let’s open our favorite text editor. Wait, what? You don’t want to do that either? Well, why not? It’s easy! Just click on the icon for your preferred text editor and wait a few minutes while it finishes opening (or you could just skip this step altogether because you already have Python installed on your computer).

Step 4: Write Your First Program (or not)

Alright, let’s write our first program. Wait, what? You don’t want to do that either? Well, why not? It’s easy! Just open a new file in your favorite text editor and type the following code:

# This script prints the string "Hello, world!" to the console

# Use the print() function to output the string "Hello, world!"
print("Hello, world!")

Wait, what? That doesn’t look right. You don’t want to do that either? Well, why not? It’s easy! Just replace “Hello, world!” with your own message (or you could just skip this step altogether because you already have Python installed on your computer).

Step 5: Run Your Program (or not)

Now that we’ve written our program, let’s run it. Wait, what? You don’t want to do that either? Well, why not? It’s easy! Just save the file with a .py extension and open up your command prompt or terminal window. Then type “python” followed by the name of your Python script (or you could just skip this step altogether because you already have Python installed on your computer).

Step 6: Enjoy Your New Programming Skills!

Congratulations, you’ve successfully installed and used Python on Windows! You can now write programs that do all sorts of amazing things. Or you could just skip this step altogether because you already have Python installed on your computer (you know, from when you took that introductory programming course in college).
