Once you have that bad boy downloaded, open up your trusty friend VirtualBox and create a new virtual machine by clicking “New” in the top left corner.
Next, give it a name like “Kali Linux on Steroids” or something equally epic. Then select how much memory (RAM) you want to allocate for this bad boy we recommend at least 2GB if you’re serious about hacking. After that, create a new virtual hard disk by clicking the little plus sign next to the “Hard Disk” section and selecting “VDI”.
Now it’s time to mount your ISO image as a CD/DVD drive in VirtualBox so we can install Kali Linux on our newly created VM. To do this, click the little settings icon (it looks like a gear) next to your new virtual machine and select “Storage” from the menu on the left-hand side.
From there, click the little plus sign next to the “Controller: IDE” section and add a new CD/DVD drive by selecting “Choose Virtual Optical Disk File…” and navigating to where you saved your Kali Linux ISO image. Once that’s done, hit OK and close out of all those windows we’re ready to roll!
Now it’s time to start our new virtual machine and boot into the installation process by clicking “Start” in VirtualBox. From there, follow along with the prompts and select your language, region, keyboard layout, etc. until you get to the part where it asks if you want to install Kali Linux on a new hard drive or use an existing one we’re going to choose “Install Kali Linux” since that’s what we want to do here.
Next up is selecting your timezone and setting up your network connection (which should be pretty straightforward). After that, it’s time to create a user account for yourself so you can log in and start hacking away! Just make sure to choose a strong password and don’t forget what it is we wouldn’t want any unauthorized access to our sweet new Kali Linux setup.
And there you have it, your very own custom-built virtual machine running the latest version of Kali Linux on VirtualBox! Now go out there and start hacking away at all those ***** systems that need some serious security upgrades.
