How to Customize Folders with Desktop.ini

Thats right, Im talking about customizing folders with Desktop.ini!

Now, before you start rolling your eyes and muttering under your breath, let me explain why this is such a game-changer. First of all, it allows you to add some personality to those boring old folders that just sit there on your desktop looking plain as day. And secondly (and more importantly), its actually really easy to do!

So without further ado, let me walk you through the process step by step:

1. Open up your favorite text editor (I recommend Gedit or Nano) and create a new file called Desktop.ini in the folder that you want to customize.

2. Add some basic information about the folder, like its name and location. For example:

[Desktop Entry]
Name=My Folder
Comment=This is my fancy new folder!
Type=Application
Exec=/path/to/your/program
Icon=/path/to/your/icon
Terminal=false
StartupNotify=true
Categories=Utility;

3. Save the file and close your text editor. Thats it! Your folder should now have a custom icon, name, and description. And if you open up another terminal window (or press Ctrl+Alt+T), you can even run programs directly from within that folder without having to navigate through all of those ***** subdirectories.

Now, I know what some of you might be thinking: But wait a minute! What about the other folders on my desktop? How do I customize them too? The beauty of Desktop.ini is that it can be used to customize any folder (or file) on your system, regardless of where its located or what kind of data it contains.

So give it a try! Customize all of those boring old folders until they look as cool as you do. And if anyone asks why youre spending so much time on something like this, just tell them that its for the greater good (or at least to make your desktop look a little bit less bland).

Until next time!
